National coach Darren Smith has been left sweating on the fitness of Ali Meeke as Ireland set off on the road to Rio.

Next month's World League tournament in Dublin is the first hurdle in the quest for qualification for the 2016 Olympics.

And the reliable Loreto defender remains sidelined after breaking a bone in her hand during training camp in Spain.

Yvonne O'Byrne from Cork Harlequins has been put on stand-by in case Meeke's recovery falters and the Leesider will travel to London with the squad for the warm-up series against Great Britain.

Otherwise, the squad of 18 announced yesterday is along expected and experienced lines.

There is no place in the panel for Ards striker Chloe Brown, while UCD pair of Deirdre Duke and Emily Beatty also lose out.

The side will be captained by Ulster Elks star Megan Frazer.
