mcgee's french dream brought to end

TENNIS: James McGee's French Open adventure ended in abject disappointment as the Irish No 1 crashed out in the final round of qualifying at Roland Garros.

Italy's Andrea Arnaboldi triumphed on a 6-3 6-4 scoreline after an hour and nine minutes.

The signs were ominous when Arnaboldi broke the Castleknock man's serve for a 3-1 lead before going on to take the opening set in 33 minutes. But McGee provided his supporters with hope when breaking for a 2-0 lead in the second set. However, Arnaboldi immediately broke back to love.

Another break in the seventh game put the Milan native in the driving seat and he took advantage of his first match point at 40-15 to join the ranks of Nadal, Djokovic and Federer in the 128-strong main draw.
