Limerick -- city of sport 2011

This evening at Thomond Park (5.30), representatives from a range of sporting organisations including GAA, soccer, rugby, basketball, swimming, Special Olympics and boccia (a form of bowls suitable for all ages and abilities) will attend the launch of Limerick's tenure as European City of Sport 2011.

The launch will be carried out by Mayor of Limerick Maria Byrne, cathaoirleach of Limerick County Council Richard Butler and CEO of Shannon Development Vincent Cunnane. There will be a display of the various sports on the Thomond Park pitch, along with the presence of the Munster Rugby Supporters Club choir, who will close the event and get under way what promises to be a very exciting year for the sports-loving city.
