ANDY LEE has been handed the chance to put the record straight on the only defeat of his 27-fight pro career.
Lee's coach and manager, Emanuel Steward, confirmed that Lee will meet Texas-born Brian Vera in a rematch on the Sergio Martinez/Darren Barker undercard at the Boardwalk in Atlantic City on October 1.
Vera controversially beat the Limerick southpaw in Connecticut in March 2008 on a seventh-round stoppage, a defeat which the 2004 Irish Olympian admitted was devastating.
Lee was ahead on points when the scheduled 10-rounder was stopped and actually shook Vera with a right seconds before ref, Tony Chiarantano, intervened in the Texan's favour.
"Andy threw the last punch and he had the winning of that fight as Vera had run clean out of gas," said Steward, who confirmed that Lee's recently acquired North American belts will be up for grabs in the rematch.
"I'm confident that Andy will win and we will have him challenging for a world title next year."
Lee will be at ringside at Wembley Arena in London tonight to support his cousin Tyson Fury, a former Irish senior international.
Fury is challenging Dereck Chisora for his British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles.
