Katie Taylor rounds off great year with RTE Sports Person of the Year award
OLYMPIC champion Katie Taylor rounded off a golden year by winning the coveted RTE Sports Person of the Year award.
The cream of Irish sport – including Leinster star Rob Kearney, hurler Henry Shefflin, Donegal manager and Celtic assistant Jim McGuinness – saw Katie pick up the award at RTE studios in Donnybrook.
Looking stunning in a light pink Ted Baker mini-dress, she said she felt "privileged" to get the top honours from RTE and the Irish Sports Council.
Her fellow medal-winning boxers were also on hand to see Katie get the award.
After Christmas, though, it's back to training for Katie as she prepares for the European Women's Championships and the Rio Olympics in 2016.
"There's lots to look forward to. It's going to be a great year I hope," a delighted Katie told the Irish Independent.
Meanwhile, Billy Walsh, the head coach of the Irish Amateur Boxing Association, was named RTE's Sports Manager of the Year for heading up Ireland's hugely successful Olympic boxing team, which brought home a total of four medals.
Former Republic of Ireland soccer manager Jack Charlton was given the Irish Sports Council's Hall of Fame award for his 10-year reign, which included two World Cup qualifications.
