KATIE TAYLOR has received a walkover into the semi-finals of the AIBA World Women’s Elite Championships in Jeju, South Korea.

The Bray woman was due to meet Sofya Ochigava at approximately 6am (Irish time) in the last-eight this morning, but the Russian did not weigh-in between 7am and 8am local time.

It is understood that Ochigava picked up an injury in her last-16 bout yesterday.

Irish team manager Anna Moore confirmed that that Taylor had received a walkover into the last-four.

Taylor beat Ochigava in the 2011 and 2012 European, World and Olympic lightweight finals.

Taylor, who did weigh-in this morning, is now guaranteed to be taking home at least a bronze medal from the tournament.

The Olympic champion is aiming for her fifth successive title in Jeju. She’ll face China’s Junhua Yin in the semi-finals on Sunday.

Yin edged out Bulgaria’s Denista Eliseeva on a split decision in Jeju this morning.

The finals will be held on Monday.

“It is what it is,” said Pete Taylor. “After the contest yesterday I actually pointed out to Katie and I said to her that Ochigava wouldn’t fight today.”
