Johnston takes reins
TRENT JOHNSTON will be going to the World T20 finals in Bangladesh next year after all -- as head coach of the Ireland women's team.
The 39-year-old has been given two new roles in the Cricket Ireland set-up after ending his illustrious playing career by lifting the InterContinental Cup for the fourth time in Dubai on Friday.
In addition to being handed the reins of the women's team, Johnston becomes the fast bowling coach at the new National Academy, as well as retaining his part-time position as coach of Leinster Lightning.
"It's very exciting and a great honour to be given these new challenges," Johnston said. "It's a new chapter in my life and one I'm looking forward to immensely."
Meanwhile, Ireland's men arrived home after capturing a unique treble of ICC titles in 2013 to find they have not even been shortlisted for the RTE team of the year.
