Jet firing on all cylinders

The Champion Stakes produced yet another fabulous final at Shelbourne Park on Saturday night with Droopys Jet providing trainer Fraser Black with his second success in the pre-Derby feature.

The money came for Droopys Jet on the night and he closed at 5/2 joint-favourite with Ballymac Vic and they battled it out for most of the journey along with Razldazl Bugatti.

Droopys Jet led by half a length on the opening bend and was a length up entering the back ahead of Ballymac with Razldazl Bugatti in third.

Droopys Jet contained Ballymac Vic's challenge to the third bend and then eased clear to win in a very fast 29.46. Ballymac held the big finishing Tibetan Skies for second spot.

The Ladbrokes Irish Derby beckons for all six finalists and Droopys Jet is sure to be one of the favourites for the Classic along with Ballymac Vic.

Owen McKenna's Camas won the Champion Plate when leading all the way for a three and a half-length margin over Barefoot Duke in 29.57 and McKenna won a second final when Airforce Frankie landed the Consolation Plate in 29.95.

Dolores Ruth had a treble headed by Razldazl Jayfkay in the Consolation Champion Stakes in 29.83, while she also clocked in with Razldazl Dmagio in 41.93 for the 750-yard race and Cuil Cougar with a 29.51 for the 550 distance.

Fastest of the second session of Bar One Racing Irish Sprint Cup winners was Cashen Malouda, which beat Town Ruffian by a length in 21.24 at Dundalk.
