Jennings and Doherty take Donegal honours

Garry Jennings and Neil Doherty completed their dream debut drive in a World Rally Car when they brought their Subaru Impreza to victory in the the Topaz Donegal International Rally last night, 81 seconds ahead of Seamus Leonard and John McCafferty at Letterkenny.

Jennings and Doherty took the lead on Friday morning's opening stage and were never headed during the three days.

As they set out yesterday morning for the final six stages, they were 36 seconds ahead of Daragh O'Riordan and Tony McDaid.

Five-times Circuit of Ireland winner Derek McGarrity came third, ahead of Donagh Kelly.

Irish Tarmac Championship leader Darren Gass finished fifth, with Billy Coleman Young Driver Award-winner Sam Moffett taking the Group N Production class in sixth position overall.

Donegal rivals Declan Boyle and Manus Kelly took the top two places in the National Rally, just five seconds apart.
