Irishman’s co driver killed in Italian rally crash
Welsh rally driver Gareth Roberts has been killed after a high-speed crash at a rally in Italy.
Roberts (24) was acting as navigator for Ireland’s Craig Breen in stage 8 of the Targa Florio Rally in Sicily.
Their Peugeot car left the road at high speed during the opening stage this morning.
Roberts was pronounced dead at the scene. Breen (22), who is from Waterford, was airlifted to hospital but his condition is not thought to be serious.
The event has now been cancelled.
