Irish duo underline class with German triumphs
Wexford's Bertram Allen and Paraic Kenny enjoyed a double of Grand Prix wins at the Future Champions International at Hagen, Germany.
Talented Enniscorthy-born 16-year-old Allen, who followed individual gold at the European Pony Championships in 2010 with silver last year, brought Wild Thing out to secure the only Irish clear in Friday's Junior Nations Cup. On Saturday, riding the same Dutch-bred horse which he co-owns with Billy Twomey, he produced one of just 11 first-round clears from the 85 Junior Grand Prix starters.
And, with a devastating turn of speed, the youngster pipped Holland's Laura Klaphake against the clock.
Yesterday, 16-year-old Kenny and Grey Ross showed their rivals the way in the six-way Pony Grand Prix jump-off, having already won the Two-Phase on Krafty Cat.
