Ireland finished fourth in the 4-Star Nations Cup at Copenhagen, Denmark yesterday, when Shane Carey and Edward Doyle also clinched two of the top-four places in the earlier Two-Phase event.
Pathfinder Doyle provided the drop score when picking up eight faults with Samgemjee in the first round of the team competition, but when Andrew Bourns (Roundthorn Madios), Clem McMahon (Pacino) and Trevor Coyle (Jubilee D'Ouilly) had just single errors, they were already fourth at the halfway stage.
Just nine of the 18 teams returned for round two, and with each having a fence down and the best three scores counted, the final Irish tally of 24 faults was good enough to hold on behind Ukraine in third, Denmark in second and Germany in first place.
At home yesterday the 2-Star International at Balmoral, Belfast concluded with a great win for Conor Swail and Lansdowne who pinned Dermott Lennon and Loughview Lou Lou into second.
Lennon has been named for next week's premier league FEI Nations Cup in Rome along with Cian O'Connor, Shane Sweetnam, Billy Twomey and Niall Talbot.
