In Brief: Cardiff move into third spot

Cardiff Blues moved into third place in the Magners League with a comfortable 29-9 win over Treviso, but will have to improve if they wish to remain in a play-off position.

With trips to the Dragons and the Ospreys to complete the regular season, Blues fans will hope local rivalry can inspire the spark lacking against the negative Italians.

The home side could only manage a penalty try and a Xavier Rush score as Dan Parks kicked the other Blues points with two conversions and five penalties to secure the victory.

IRELAND'S James McGee crashed out of the ITF Futures event in Grasse, France yesterday.

The 675-ranked Dubliner's hopes were dashed by France's 261-ranked Romain Jouan, who clinched a quarter-final place 6-1 6-4.

McGee, partnered by Swords man James Cluskey, also exited in the quarter-finals of the doubles, going down on a champions tie-break 5-7 6-3 (10/5).

Spanish lightweight Maria del Carman Moreno has been named as Katie Taylor's new opponent for tonight's show in Bray after Jennifer Miranda pulled out of the bout.

The pair will meet over four two-minute rounds at the Royal Hotel. Taylor beat Moreno on the Willie Casey versus Guillermo Rigondeaux undercard last month.

Robert Kubica is finally hoping to leave hospital within the next 10 days.

Kubica has spent the last two and a half months at the Pietra Ligure hospital in Italy after a horrific accident while competing in the Ronde di Andorra rally on February 6.
