Three Rock Rovers are in a potentially vulnerable position as they begin their defence of the Irish Senior Cup - world hockey's oldest cup competition - with a home date against Annadale.

The Rathfarnham club will be shy of the services of World Cup-bound Daragh Walsh, Luke Madeley and Mitch Darling, taking away a central element of each line of their formation.

While the EY Hockey League has gone on hold for international absences, a downgraded cup competition goes ahead, with a place in the Champions Trophy play-offs no longer on offer for the winners.

Dale come to Dublin off a middling campaign to date but they did raid Grange Road for a point on their last visit and have Irish internationals Peter Caruth and Callum Robson available.

Struggling Cork C of I and YMCA will be wary against UCD and Kilkeel respectively.

On the women's side, the pick of the EYHL action is UCD's hosting of Cork Harlequins, with World Cup defenders Lena Tice and Yvonne O'Byrne going head to head. Quins are the only team to have won at Belfield for two-and-a-half years in the league and they will be looking to form another ambush.
