Goalkeeper Harte a major doubt for Euros
Two-time world goalkeeper of the year David Harte has emerged as a massive doubt for the Irish men's European Championship campaign in three weeks' time in Belgium.
He missed last weekend's trip to Scotland with a muscle strain and the Green Machine will be anxiously waiting to see if the inflammation will reduce significantly in time for the Euros.
Harte was omitted from the preliminary squad announced yesterday with Jamie Carr and Mark Ingram named as the goalkeepers.
But it came with the caveat from coach Alexander Cox that "there are still some decisions to be made around our goalkeepers".
Cox did get a boost with Eugene Magee - Ireland's most-capped male player - benefiting from a U-turn in availability. He was initially unable to get time off work but has since come to a new arrangement to be able to take part in Antwerp from August 16-25.
The other changes see Jeremy Duncan, Stu Loughrey and Kirk Shimmins all come back in, while Matthew Nelson and Matthew Bell are named on the reserve list with Luke Madeley out with a broken bone in his foot.
Former Australia international Tim Cross is the other change from the FIH Series Finals in June, doing enough in last weekend's series in Scotland to gain inclusion.
