Hockey: Piccioli boost for Ccorinthians

The final round of the men's Irish League takes place this weekend with places in the finals weekend, which takes place on May 15-16 in Three Rock Rovers, very much up for grabs, writes DAVID MEDCALF.

Only Pembroke Wanderers are sure of a place in the semi-finals as they sit on the top of Pool A with an impressive 15 points.

Corinthians will be looking to make up for their defeat against Pembroke when they take on Instonians in what is a must-win fixture for both teams. The Reds, who welcome back Lucas Piccioli, will expect strong performances from their contingent of forwards including Darren Kimfley, Roland Rixon Fuller and David Carson.

Cork Harlequins will select from a full panel apart from Eddie Dore for their match against Banbridge. Harlequins completed their Munster League campaign with a 2-0 victory over Bandon, with Dan Hobbs scoring both goals.

In Pool B, joint leaders Lisnagarvey will be hoping to make home advantage pay against Cork C of I, while Glenanne should account for Annadale. Cookstown, who are three points behind the top two, will also hope to use home advantage to steal points away from Three Rock.
