Hockey: Mullan magic rescues Ireland

IRELAND 1 SCOTLAND 1

A FINE strike from rookie Katie Mullan rescued a hard-earned point for Ireland's women in the Electric Ireland Champions Hockey Challenge.

The Irish looked the slicker outfit early on in the first half as the Scots survived close calls from Anna O'Flanagan and Miriam Crowley.

With no joy from a series of penalty corners, the frustrated home side began to make mistakes and they were made to pay on the stroke of half-time as Catriona Ralph's shot bounced past Emma Gray.

The Scots continued to look dangerous after the break, but Mullan came to the rescue, collecting a pass from Nikki Symmons with her back to goal and turning smartly to deliver a sweet shot on the reverse side eight minutes from time.
