There was great racing in almost every class at Mondello Park yesterday, with multiple Formula Sheane champion Brian Hearty getting the better of current title holder Kevin Sheane in both of their duels.

Both Formula Vee races saw the first and second placed drivers within a quarter of a second at the chequered flag, with Stephen Morrin beating Anthony Cross in the qualifying race, and Kevin Grogan getting the better of David O'Brien in the Crowne Plaza Hotel Final.

Erik Holstein scored two close victories in the Yokohama Irish Touring Car rounds, although Dave O'Brien kept him at bay for the first half of race two until a mistake allowed the former show jumper to add another win to his collection.

Ex-champion Owen Murphy won the second round of the Valvoline National Forestry Rally Championship in West Cork, opening out a 15 second margin over Ulsterman Desi Henry in another Lancer Evo over the six stages.

Three times National Hillclimb champion Simon McKinley dominated the opening weekend of the season in Wexford, finishing both days with a comfortable winning margin over his opposition.
