On a normal weekday morning, Lilly’s bar on Portlaoise’s Main Street would be shut for clean-up and restocking. But early last Friday, Laois footballer Kieran Lillis opened the doors and cranked up the coffee machine. About 20 members of the Portlaoise club shuffled in to watch on as their own Zach Tuohy and Geelong cruised into another Grand Final.

Amongst those present was Tuohy’s brother in law. Watching the Cats win by 71 points, he whipped out his phone and booked flights to tomorrow’s season finale on the spot. Other members of Tuohy’s family will also decamp to the MCG for tomorrow morning’s game.
