Entries close on Tuesday for the Corrib Oil streets of Galway 8k road race -- the 26th running of this hugely popular event, which regularly receives an entry of over 2,000.

This year's event has a new title sponsor in Corrib Oil and the last few entries are still available at www.galwayscityharriers.com. The course starts and finishes in the Claddagh.

It was a joyous day for Chris Harrington as he recorded his most prestigious victory when winning the second annual Carrigtwohill 5k in 15:53 from a huge field of over 550 finishers.

Leevale also provided the women's winner in Michelle Finn, who got away from Rhona Lynch and Niamh Walsh after two miles to cross the line in 18:07.

mayo series rolls on with SWINFORD date

Following on from the Balla 10k, the fifth race in Mayo AC's Road Race series is the Swinford 8k on Sunday, starting at 4.0.

Entries (€15) will be taken from 2.0 to 3.45 at the Gateway Hotel adjacent to the traffic-free start/finish area on Main Street.

After the Balla 10k the men's leader in the Mayo Road League is Matt Bidwell (GCH) on 73pts. Mayo AC's Mary Gleeson is well on her way to a record fourth women's title with 98pts from four races.
