Greyhounds: Hennessy on front foot

It was a case of business as usual as racing resumed at Shelbourne Park on Saturday night and the track's leading trainer, Paul Hennessy, turned out a four-timer, three of them in the heats of the John J Casey Open 575.

The going was rated at .40 slow for the 575 yards and there were some decent performances. Fastest of the night was the 31.44 from All Dolled Up as she completed the Hennessy tally in heat five, where she was much too strong for her rivals from half way and won by four and a half lengths from Rough Robinho.

Earlier that smashing stayer Group Skater had opened the Hennessy account in heat two when swooping late to beat Rebel Ted by three lengths in 31.67. The middle leg of the heat treble was provided by De Ex Factor as he hit the front turning for home and won by three lengths from Northbound Lucy in 31.49.

Another superb effort in the heats came from the Liam Dowling-trained Burnpark Champ as he hit the front before the turn and raced right away for a nine-length margin over Dooey Shaw in 31.45.

Fastest of the opening round in the IGB Unraced at Clonmel on Saturday was Ken Foley's Boggan as he stopped the clock in 29.13.

It has been confirmed that the National Meeting at Clonmel will be run on the intended dates, February 1-3.

The joint slippers for the meeting will be Tom Murphy and Richie Quinn while Liam Kelly and John O'Connell will be the joint judges.
