Greyhounds: Farley blitz can make big Derby impact for McKenna

The second session of first-round heats in the Irish Derby sees another raft of leading contenders swing into action at Shelbourne Park tonight.

First of the big names on view will be Farley Blitz in Heat 10 and this fast-finishing Champion Stakes third can provide the first leg of a short-priced double for trainer Owen McKenna. It is far from the toughest heat of the round and Farley does look the obvious one.

McKenna can then strike with Thurlesbeg Joker in the final heat of the evening. He has a trap five draw, but should have the measure of an opposition that includes last year's Derby finalist Belvedere Champ. He hasn't sparkled yet this year and Thurlesbeg gets a confident call.

Pat Guilfoyle's Definate Opinion is the outright favourite in many lists and he can overcome a tricky draw in Heat 13, where his rivals include his Cox Cup final conqueror Tyrur Bucko. But the Tyrurs can have their moments in Heat 12, where Tyrur McGuigan is drawn to run a big race, with American challenger Kiowa Myth the obvious danger, and then with Tyrur Dylan in Heat 14.

Heat 9: Freedom Seacrest (Cookies Fantasy)

Heat 10: Farley Blitz (Joey Jojo Junior)

Heat 11: Lassa Extreme (Faypoint Man)

Heat 12: Tyrur McGuigan (Kiowa Myth)

Heat 13: Definate Opinion (Tyrur Bucko)

Heat 14: Tyrur Dylan (De Ex Factor)

Heat 15: Tullymurry Act (Clonkeen Stan)

Heat 16: Thurlesbeg Joker (Forest Rover)
