Greyhounds: Enda stunned on night of semi-final shocks

It was upsets all the way in the semi-finals of the Red Mills Waterford Masters at Kilcohan Park on Saturday night as 6/1 chances Jonny Whitesox and Thurlesbeg Joker triumphed.

Tyrur Enda was the hot favourite for the opening heat but made a mess of the start and had lengths to make up heading into the back straight behind fast-starting Fatboyz Nodrog and Jonny Whitesox.

Tyrur made rapid progress to the third but here Kieran Lennon's Jonny Whitesox hit the front and he ran on to hold Tyrur by a length in 29.96.

Thurlesbeg Joker made the most of his back-door appearance in the second heat as he replaced Tyford Comet. Leeview Jet, Colorful Champ and Beaming Dilemma had a tremendous battle to the third bend but Thurlesbeg then entered the picture.

Beaming Dilemma shot ahead on the final bend but the Pat Gordon-trained Thurlesbeg Joker was too strong on the run-in and came through to win by half a length in 29.76.

Da Hatter won the open 525 final at Shelbourne when hitting the front around the bottom bends and going on to win by two lengths from Classical Beauty in 28.54, while Tyrur Henry led all to win a heat of the Dobbins 525 in 28.28.

Definate Opinion was fastest in the semi-finals of the Oliver Hawkes Memorial Open 575 at Curraheen Park. He led from the opening bend to beat Headleys Mentor by four and a half lengths in 31.14. Hare Mack won the other semi-final, the reserve coming a second time to beat Yeah Me by a length in 31.23.
