Greyhounds: Electrifying Farley Blitz sends out Derby warning with awesome triumph

Farley Blitz and Farley Turbo, emerged as the shining stars after a fantastic three day's of action at Shelbourne Park, with the first round of the Irish Derby finally completed on Saturday night.

Blitz posted the fastest time of the round on Friday with a 29.57 run, while Farley Turbo was only seven spots adrift as he set the Saturday evening pace with a stunning 10-length runaway success in Heat 22.

This was an awesome effort from Owen McKenna's heavyweight and he will definitely be a tough nut to crack as the rounds progress.

Another to really impress in the final session was PJ Fahy's Tyrur Enda, as he won Heat 17 in 29.72.

He left his rivals dead for early pace and had eight lengths in hand over Shaneboy Flash in 29.72.

Fahy had three first round winners, the third of them arriving in Heat 19 where Tyrur Richie led all the way to win in 29.90.

The race of the night came in Heat 21 where Fraser Black's Krug Ninety Five staged a dramatic surge to catch Dolores Ruth's Razldazl Lord for a dead heat in 29.92.

The round ended with a powerful performance from Fraser Black's Westmead Grant as he led home the puppy Kingo by three lengths in 29.74.

The second round will be run on Thursday and Saturday nights, with the race of the round surely Heat 7, where Farley Blitz will be opposed by Tyrur Enda, Tullymurry Act and Skywalker Queen.

This is a big night at Dundalk with the two semi-finals of the Bar One Racing Irish Sprint Cup to be decided. Sheepwalk Mac and Carlows Pride are the likely heat winners, but both contests are full of quality as our top speedsters battle for prized spots in next Sunday's final.
