Tralee breeder and trainer Liam Dowling has made a phenomenal start to the year and he enjoyed a thoroughly memorable Saturday night as he turned out no fewer than seven winners at three different venues.
He had a graded four-timer at his local track, a heat winner in the Vetsearch International Kennedy Cup at Limerick, plus another on the supporting card and a winner and two thirds in the semi-finals of the Tyrur McGuigan Open 575 at Shelbourne.
The victory of General Dogsbody in the Tyrur semi-finals was surely the headliner of the Dowling haul and this much-improved tracker is now guaranteed to start a strong favourite for next Saturday's final.
De Ex Factor tried his utmost to reel him in but General Dogsbody is a very strong runner and he kept on for a really impressive victory in 31.41 on a track that was rated at .30s slow.
The other semi-final saw the Peter Cronin-trained Whatsupjack lead from the opening bend to win in 31.74.
Star of the opening round of the Joe Dunne Memorial Puppy Stake at Shelbourne was Pa Fitzgerald's Melodys Royal as he led from the opening bend for a four-and-a-half-length margin over Leap Of Faith in 28.81.
