Greyhounds: aLaddie lands Puppy spoils

MAJOR successes for Monaghan-trained greyhounds are rare, so there were big celebrations at Shelbourne Park on Saturday after Hanover Laddie was a trap to line 6/1 winner of the €15,000 National Puppy Stake.

Breaking fast from the two box, Hanover just took the bend from Ruthless Man, with the favourites Razldazl Will and Paradise Martini in the wars. Hanover was clear from there but he had to pull out all the stops in the final straight to hold off the flying late run of Highview Beauty by a short head in 28.83.

Razldazl Will finished even faster and was less than a length back in third place.

The winner is trained in Carrickmacross by Laurence Jones for Drogheda-based, Clare native Noel Ryan and was bred in Kildare by Mick Wall.

Graham Holland bagged a four-timer, which was spearheaded by Cabra Noel, which won the Consolation Stake in 28.70.
