Greyhounds: Act forced to retire

The career of Tullymurry Act shuddered to a halt at Waterford on Saturday night when Pat Buckley's leading tracker smashed a hock when a clear leader in his heat of the Red Mills Masters.

Winner of last year's Puppy Derby, Act led into the opening bend before his hock gave. Buckley said there are two breaks in the right hind and the dog will be retired to stud.

His heat was won by De Ex Factor, completing a double for Paul Hennessy as he hit the front on the final bend and won by four lengths from Leeview Jet in 29.63.

The first Hennessy winner was Colorful Champ in the opening heat -- he beat Fatboyz Nodrog by a length in 29.70.

Fastest of the round was Pat Gordon's Fatboyz Tyson as he stepped out lively in the second heat and won by two and a half lengths over Razldazl Lord in 29.57.

Meanwhile, John Byrne's Crash Bandit took the Mannion Builders Supplies National 750 at Shelbourne. He went off third favourite but always looked a winner as he tracked Mustang Johnny to the fifth bend. From here, Crash Bandit pulled away to win from Ooh Black Betty in 41.65.

Star turn on the Shelbourne card was the Marie Gilbert-trained bitch puppy Mozzletoff as she shot clear in an open puppy contest and won by eight lengths from Black Cyclone in a scorching 28.33.

Liam O'Rourke's Ballymac Tipp ran a game race when coming from behind to beat Glencullen Lad by a neck in 28.64 in the Dobbins Restaurant Open 525 final.
