Greyhound racing: Tote Gold Cup at Shelbourne Park

When Tyrur Big Mike's name figured among the reserves for the first round of the Tote Gold Cup at Shelbourne Park tonight it generated speculation that he might be a star attraction in the event.

However, PJ Fahy yesterday ruled Big Mike out of the competition, and said he will stick to his Easter Cup plan.

The 48-dog Tote Gold Cup entry is a high-class one and the search for the first-round banker comes up with Judicial Academy, which represents Pat Daly and Michael O'Donovan in Heat 3.

A St Leger finalist on his last outing, he moved very swiftly in his 28.43 trial spin and may have the class to edge out in-form Tolerton Crasher and Quick Lee.

For value, Tyrur O Gorman could be the one in Heat 7. His performance last week, when beaten less than a length by Tolerton Crasher, was a real eye-catcher.

Tyrur Carey in Heat 4 and Tyrur Domingo in Heat 6 can also strike for the Fahy kennel.

For the night's best bet, we look to Rita Downey's Monleek Bay in the opener. He would be worth his place in the Tote Gold Cup and his all-round pace should be too much for these rivals.

The Limerick card includes all 12 heats of the inaugural Roches Feeds Oaks and, while Marie Gilbert's Mozzletoff looks the one to beat, she may be at prohibitive odds in Heat 7.

There may be better odds about Liam Dowling's Ballymac Lefanta in Heat 2, Dolores Ruth's Razldazl Alice in Heat 3 and John McDonagh's Gone To Mirah in Heat 9.

There will be a multi-venue benefit run tonight for Down Syndrome Ireland. Ten tracks will take part, with all sorts of fundraising ventures set to take place.

Paul Hennessy's Group Skater contests the final of the Ladbrokes Golden Jacket at Crayford this afternoon (12.39) and must have reasonable prospects.
