Greyhound Racing: Puma has measure of Brandy in Champion tussle

The stars will be on show at Shelbourne Park tonight when the semi-finals of the Champion Stakes will be the main attraction.

Top draw will be 2012 Derby champion Skywalker Puma as he returns to his favourite circuit in what should be a relatively handy task for him in the opening heat.

Matt O'Donnell is confident that Puma is better than he was last year, and if that's the case then he will be leading home these rivals.

Money Talks could conceivably move in from traps and block him off, but the main threat this evening can emerge from Paradise Madison's litter brother Mall Brandy, which must be the most improved racer in the country.

One suspects there is more to come from Martin Fahy's Brandy but SKYWALKER PUMA (10.0) should definitely be banker material.

Paradise Madison looked badly in need of match practice last week but the main bonus was that he emerged unscathed from his run.

Expect a major improvement in Heat 2, but he may still be a bit short on fitness, so Niall Dunne's NORTH BOUND (10.15) is the selection.

If Conor Fahy's TYRUR SUGAR RAY (10.30) is fully recovered from his English Derby exploits then he really should win Heat 3, where Melodys Diamond looks the only realistic danger.

Prior to racing, Milldean Panther will have a most interesting trial over the 525-yard distance.

The Bar One Racing Irish Sprint Cup continues at Dundalk this evening, and defending champion CAMBUSHMORE (8.55) can get off to the perfect start.

He has escaped all the top fancies in this event and Piercestown Liam can chase him home.

His trainer, Graham Holland, looks set for a double as regular record breaker LEEVIEW DAVE (10.25) appears to have an easy task ahead of him in the concluding heat.

UK-trained TAYL BOUND (8.41) took well to the track last week and can score again, while another to have on your side is Dolores Ruth's RAZLDAZL RIOGA (9.25) from a favourable draw in three.

The semi-finals of the Thurles Fresh Milk Tipperary Cup will be run at Tipperary, and ALL ABOUT YA (9.50) and PAKIES RAMBLE (10.05) could well be the winners here.

Galway trials

Galway is the latest track to join the early trials move due to the hot weather.

This morning's session will be staged between 7.0 and 9.0.
