Glenanore Dancer to stay with O'Neill despite sale

Glenanore Dancer – the new kid on the block after producing a second outstanding performance in the Red Mills Open Unraced Stake at Clonmel – will run under new ownership next weekend.

Castletownroche trainer Tom O'Neill and wife Breda bred the dog themselves from the bitch Marbeck Star, and he has taken the Clonmel event by storm with 28.49 and 28.48 runs in the opening two rounds.

Tom confirmed that a deal has been done with a syndicate of seven English- based enthusiasts, and the good news for the Co Cork trainer is that the son of Kinloch Brae will remain in training with him and will target the major Irish prizes.

In Sunday's race, he again flew from traps and won by four lengths from the pacey Screen Critic.

Next best time on the night was the 28.57 run from Michael Fogarty's Speed Agreed, while Fraser Black got three of his four runners through to the quarter-finals.

Black's Droopys Margo was a shock elimination, but his Ashford Castle was mighty impressive when coming from behind to win in 28.83.

The other big upset of the round was the unlucky elimination of Owen McKenna's Roxholme Bully from Heat 6, which was won by Shaneboy Gina in 29.32.

Clonmel manager Eddie Anderson yesterday confirmed that the new grandstand facility will be handed over at the weekend. The transfer of equipment will then take place and it will be fully open to the public on Sunday, January 27.

Best bets

Harold's Cross has the racing scene to itself. Liam O'Rourke's BALLYMAC FIRST looks the best bet in the first of the D2 contests (9.40) from a nice draw, while Tony Byrne's DROOPYS CRUMLIN could make a winning six-bend debut in the Novice 750 (8.55).

Number of the day

4 The number of unbeaten runners remaining in the Red Mills Unraced at Clonmel. But two of them, Ballyhill Beryl and Ashford Castle, are due to clash in the quarter-finals on Sunday.
