An autopsy will be carried out today on the body of former New York Giants safety Tyler Sash who was found dead yesterday.
The 27-year-old was discovered by a family member in his hometown of Oskaloosa in Iowa. The cause of death yet to be confirmed but no foul play is suspected.
Sash is regarded as one of the greatest in Iowa Hawkeyes history, as he reeled in 13 interceptions and racked up 217 tackles in just three collegiate seasons.
He played two NFL seasons with the New York Giants after he was selected in the sixth round of the 2011 draft.
He would go on to be a part of the Super Bowl XLVI winning side as a reserve.
A statement from the Giants read: "We were all deeply saddened today to hear of the passing of Tyler. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Tyler’s family and friends and all the Hawkeyes he was so proud to represent."
