Equestrian: Derry's Daniel Coyle (23) posted the first major victory of his career when topping the $384,000 Douglas Ellimann 5-Star Grand Prix in Wellington on Saturday night.

Coyle produced the only double-clear of the competition with Cita.

Yesterday Wexford's Bertram Allen (22) put in a brilliant performance to finish fourth in the latest leg of the Rolex Grand Slam series in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands.

Allen set the jump-off pace with Gin Chin which stopped the clock in 38.74 seconds. But his friend and tutor, Germany's Marcus Ehning, shaved a second off that with Cornado and Dutchman Harrie Smolders also sneaked ahead of the Irishman. Last in, Belgium's Niels Bruynseels galloped through the timers in 37.10 seconds with Gancia to snatch the €264,000 winner's purse while Allen earned €80,000 for fourth place.
