Equestrian: Twomey's fourth-place finish

Billy Twomey finished fourth in the Speed event with Romanov on the opening day of international jumping at CHIO Aachen yesterday.

The premier German fixture always attracts huge numbers of the world's elite and, running seventh in the field of 59 starters, the Corkman stopped the clock in 70.20 seconds.

This proved good enough for fourth place and €4,000 in prize-money as Brazil's Alvaro Miranda, with AD Rahmannshof's Bogeno, clinched victory with the quickest time of 68.50.

Dermott Lennon slotted into 15th with Ace High Mike when taking a more cautious tour of the track in 75.36 seconds.

Yesterday Horse Sport Ireland (HSI) confirmed the nomination of Twomey and Denis Lynch for the London Olympics, adding that it is "vital that there were no infringements of anti-doping or medication regulations at the event".

"The OCI/HSI monitoring group met with the riders in Dublin airport yesterday to ensure all possible further safeguards are put in place," said HSI CEO Damian McDonald.
