Equestrian: Kenny to make senior bow

Ireland field an exciting new-look team for the second Nations Cup outing of the 2010 season at Wellington in Florida this Friday, writes Louise Parkes.

Darragh Kenny (21), who has been taking the US circuit by storm recently, will get his first senior team cap in the four-star competition.

The Co Offaly rider brings his top ride Obelix, with which he has qualified for next month's World Cup final in Geneva, and Kenny also has his second ride, Gale Force, on call-up.

There is a youthful feel to the side that also includes Richie Moloney (28). Moloney is currently working alongside Shane Sweetnam, who divides his time between his homes in Kentucky and Florida, and will ride Brooke van de Zuuthoeve. Sweetnam has the exciting mare Rolette and his other top ride Zamiro.

The senior citizen in the side will be Pennsylvania-based 41-year-old Kevin Babington. He will line out this Friday with Souvenir, and team manager Robert Splaine will be assessing all four riders with a view to this summer's Meydan series which kicks off at La Baule, France, in May.

Meanwhile at home, Cian O'Connor claimed the top two places with Complete and Splendor in the second leg of the HSI Chippison Spring Tour at Cavan Equestrian Centre last Sunday.
