Equestrian: Doherty on the double

Jayne Doherty scored a double at Ballindenisk International 3-Day Event in Cork yesterday, but at the 4-Star fixture in Kentucky the Irish were out of luck, writes louise parkes.

A stop with The Jump Jet at the Lake fence on Saturday and two show jumping fences down yesterday pushed Capt Geoff Curran down to 37th. Hilda Donohoe and Extravagance retired cross-country and Oliver Townend was hospitalised following a fall, leaving William Fox-Pitt to claim the honours with Cool Mountain.

At Ballindenisk, Doherty topped the CIC 3-Star and 2-Star with The Only One and Ravenstar. Jane O'Flynn (Dinin Valier) and Trevor Smith (Rose of Delvin) won the two 1-Star classes. In show jumping, Jessica Kuerten won the BMW Masters at Antwerp on Friday and was third with Myrtille Paulois on Saturday, and at Hagen in Germany Cian O'Connor steered Complete into fourth in Friday's Speed class and his new ride, K Club Lady, into eighth in yesterday's Grand Prix.
