Shane Breen and Dermott Lennon recorded an Irish double in the hallowed arena at Aachen in Germany over the weekend, but the Grand Prix honours eluded the Irish yesterday.
It was an Irish one-two in Saturday's Hunting Competition with Breen coming out on top with the increasingly promising Magic Fox to pip Denis Lynch and the former Darragh Kerins ride, the diminutive Night Train, by less than half a second. First-day winners Lennon and Loughview Lou-Lou galloped into fourth spot behind Britain's Guy Williams, and Lennon came back to top the Accumulator with a super performance from Hallmark Elite.
Lynch steered Lord Luis into third in the Best of Champions class won by Germany's Janne-Friederike Meyer. But in yesterday's Rolex Grand Prix, Billy Twomey was the only Irish rider to jump clear in the first round and then retired Tinka's Serenade second time out as Meyer and Cellagon Lambrasco claimed the top prize.
