Donaghy and Allen get ball rolling for Killarney crowds
Today FM presenter Ray D'Arcy led out an entry of over 700 in yesterday's Join SPAR and Ray for 5k lunchtime run in Killarney's National Park and declared the route as "the most scenic" that he has encountered in what is his third year promoting these countrywide series of events.
Yesterday's event had two official starters – Kerry Gaelic football star Kieran Donaghy and TV chef Rachel Allen – who also participated in the run. It was organised by the local Farranfore/Maine Valley Athletic Club, led by Mike O'Connor and Jerome Crowley – with assistance from Tom McCormack and Bernie Dunne from Athletics Ireland HQ in Dublin, who were both also in Killarney.
"Everything went off smoothly and this Join SPAR and Ray for 5k brought a great sense of excitement to the town of Killarney," said O'Connor.
Today's Join SPAR and Ray for 5k event takes place at 1.0 in Clonmel, Tipperary, where there are 1,000 signed-up entrants.
Westport is the venue for tomorrow's run, followed by Dundalk on Thursday. The series culminates with the final event in the Phoenix Park at 1.0 on Friday, when 2,000 people are expected to take part.
