Dog chat: Buckley's star looking likely to leave Leger rivals with a big Dilemma

Greyhound racing got back on the rails on Saturday, with seven meetings going ahead. However, while frost and snow had been the main problem over the previous week, fog proved a real spoiler as far as the Kerry Agribusiness Irish St Leger was concerned.

The four quarter-finals of the Classic were run at Limerick but racegoers had to make do with watching the dogs running the front straight as the back straight wasn't visible through the mire.

The St Leger is developing into a very open competition but the Pat Buckley-trained Beaming Dilemma is emerging as the dog to beat. He maintained his unbeaten run in the Classic with another powerful front-running display in Heat 4, where he ran out a four-length winner from Jeddies Star in 30.09.

Fastest qualifier was Robert Gleeson's Hare Mack; he also broke very fast and won by a length and a half from Judicial Academy in 30.02. The other heat winners were Johnny O'Sullivan's Confident Nestor in 30.17 and Peter Cronin's Whatsupjack in 30.52.

Owen McKenna has a powerful hand in the Comerford Cakes National Puppy Stake at Shelbourne after his Farloe Force and Bling Bling Joe filled the first two places in the second semi in a best-of-the-round 28.54. Bling Bling set the pace but Farloe forced his way to the front around the bottom and won by two lengths from Bling Bling Joe, with Deerfield Music a half-length third.

The other heat saw the Marie Gilbert-trained Mozzletoff fly from trap four for an impressive all-the-way four-length margin over Beaming Therapy in 28.79, with Boxie three parts of a length third.
