Dog chat: Barefoot Bullet can hit the mark to capture English Derby

With two fancied Irish-trained runners in action, there will be huge interest in tonight's Williamhill.com English Derby final at Wimbledon.

Both Barefoot Bullet and Razldazl George have major prospects of victory and they still represent good value in a race where Taylors Sky is currently a best priced 2/1 favourite to give trainer Charlie Lister his sixth success in the Classic.

Barefoot Bullet is trainer Paul Hennessy's fourth finalist and his closest call yet was Tyrur Kieran's second placing three years ago. Tonight is his best chance to date and the Bullet has a very fair draw in five. He is breaking well from the Wimbledon boxes and he should be poised to unleash his huge pace as he enters the back.

Dolores Ruth has already won a Derby with Shanless Slippy, but Razldazl George is a completely different type of dog. A beautiful specimen, he is the type to relish a longer trip, but is not devoid of early pace. His tracking sense is quite superb and he will be travelling fastest of all from the halfway mark.

The nomination, however, goes to Barefoot Bullet for owners Bryan and Kathleen Murphy.

There is so much happening on the home front, it is difficult to keep up with it all. Having reached the quarter-final stage gives the Sporting Press Irish Oaks at Shelbourne the prime position and the banker bet of the four heats should be the Trevor Cummins-owned Cool It Baby in Heat 2. She can lead home well-housed Lady Lucielle. There are two withdrawals in Montblanc and Razldazl Alice, while the other heat winners can be Droopys Twirl, Olympic Stunner and Mozzletoff.

Veteran Definate Opinion can turn on the style again in the second round of the Kerry Agribusiness Irish St Leger at Limerick. Another to impress in this competition last week was Killians Express and he looks the one in the third heat, while Shelbourne Geoff is capable of justifying support in Heat 5. Peony Flash and Soul Fantasy are two withdrawals from the Classic.

At Drumbo Park, the second round of the Northern Irish Derby will be staged and the suggested accumulator comprises of Rafas Wee Pet, Cabra Legend, Leeview Jet and Star Head.
