Deerfield duo catch the eye

The Irish Laurels is developing into a fantastic competition, with any number of potential winners following last Saturday's quarter-finals at Curraheen Park.

It was quite a night for the team of Florida-based Fr Bryan Dalton and his Castleisland-based trainer Mossie O'Connor as they won the first two heats with their Deerfield dogs.

Deerfield Music produced the run of the night as he ran away from his rivals in the opening heat, winning by a wide margin from Varra Captain in 28.26.

In the next heat Deerfield Sings came from last to first, showing really impressive pace down the back to beat Beaming Dilemma by a neck in 28.60.

The third heat proved to be something of a cakewalk for the Dolores Ruth-trained Razldazl Rioga as he treated the crowd to a fantastic display of early pace.

He was clear by the bend and raced on to win by two and a half lengths from Leeview Jet in 28.34, with favourite Rockchase Bullet overcoming a nightmare run to grab third place.

The final heat was won by Tom O'Neill's Dream Walker as he shot past the fast-starting Happy Hermit on his way to victory in 28.60.

At Shelbourne the valuable Razldazl Open Unraced Stake was won by the Dolores Ruth-trained Razldazl Dmagio.

He was led for much of the journey by Jumeirah Dubai but came through on the run-in to take the verdict by a length and a half in 28.50.
