Ireland’s Sam Bennett finished third in today’s stage of the Tour of Turkey, extending his overall lead to 24 seconds.

Bennett was beaten in the gallop to the line in Bursa at the end of 194kms by Aussie Caleb Ewan and Spain’s Juan Jose Lobato, but picked up a further four bonus seconds for the feat.

However his hold on the leader’s blue jersey will surely come to an end tomorrow when the stage concludes with a 15km mountain climb to Kartepe.

The Carrick-on-Suir man is not likely to try too hard to defend that leader’s blue jersey. He will be more focused on saving his strength for Sunday’s flat final stage in Istanbul – which will be much more to his liking.
