Irish cycling team Aqua Blue get Vuelta invite
Aqua Blue Sport will become the first Irish cycling team to compete in a Grand Tour after receiving a wild card invite for this year’s Vuelta a Espana.
The Irish ProContinental team have hit the ground running in their first season and while they wait for their first victory, their aggressive racing has impressed and they have recorded some strong results with British champion Adam Blythe finishing second in the recent Handzame Classic and Nokere Koerse.
This year’s Vuelta starts in Nimes on August 19 with 21 stages covering 3,297km until the race finish in Madrid on September 10.
Aqua Blue's stated aim is to ride the Tour de France within four years and today's news will be a major boost to their ambitions.
