Ireland’s Sam Bennett finished second on today’s stage of the Tour of Turkey – but a time bonus won at the finish line extended his lead to 20 seconds overall.

Bennett was beaten in the final gallop to the line by Dane Fabio Jacobsen after a hilly but not too taxing 123km route to Edremit.

But his six seconds bonus for the second place sent him further clear of team-mate Felix Groschartner in the overall standings.

The Irish star might have another chance of a win tomorrow, even though the stage ends on a 3km ramp. But he will surely surrender the leader’s Blue jersey on Saturday in the hills around Bursa with a 15km climb awaits the field.
