Sam Bennett sprinted to his second professional victory of the season yesterday at Germany's oldest one-day race, the 1.1-ranked Rund um Koln in Cologne.

Bennett held on to the front of the race over nine categorised climbs to take victory in a photo finish at the end of the 192km race, edging out Dutchman Barry Markus of Belkin, with last year's Milan-San Remo winner Gerald Ciolek of MTN Qhubeka third.

At home, Mark Dowling of the DID Dunboyne team took overall victory at the four-day Kerry Group Ras Mumhan yesterday as former Leeds United footballer Bryan McCrystal outsprinted UCD's Anthony Walsh and British duo Owen James (BH Solidor) and Chris McNamara (Casco Surrey) for stage glory.

Up north, Fraser Duncan of the Dave Kane Cycles team took his third straight road stage win at the Tour of the North, ahead of Richard Hepworth of the British Velosure Giordana team and Bryan Stewart of Phoenix, but due to time lost on the stage two time trial could only manage second overall to British pro James Gullen of the Velosure squad..
