Merrion sitting pretty in Group B

Defending Premier League champions Merrion passed 300 for the second successive day as they powered to the top of Group B of the Leinster League Cup.

After amassing 322-6 in 47 overs against Clontarf, last year's runners-up, at Castle Avenue on Saturday, they totalled 333-8 in 50 overs yesterday against Rush with Dom Joyce hitting 16 fours and a six in his 143.

The fast scoring came at the end from Tyrone Kane who scored 85 from 58 balls, with five sixes, and James Hitchcock with 40 from just 22 balls. Rush were bowled out for 65 with new signing Max Sorensen taking 6-46.

Those figures were bettered by Luke Clinton, who finished with a career-best 7-13 from just five overs as North County were skittled for 67 by The Hills, who eased to a 10-wickets win inside 14 overs. They share top spot in Group A with Malahide, who enjoyed a seven-wickets win over YMCA .
