Cricket: Porterfield stars in Ireland stroll
WILLIAM PORTERFIELD smashed 58 from 40 balls as Ireland rounded off a highly successful 10 days in Sharjah with a six-wicket victory over the United Arab Emirates in a T20 international.
Skipper Porterfield counted three sixes among his seven boundaries, and for once outscored Paul Stirling in an opening partnership of 54 as Ireland made easy work of chasing down the home side's 122-9.
Youngster James Shannon, batting under lights for the first time, was bowled after helping Porterfield add 28 for the second wicket and when the skipper was run out, Gary Wilson's 35 not out saw Ireland home with seven balls to spare
Tim Murtagh was the star performer with the ball for Ireland, hitting the stumps twice as he returned figures of 3-11 from his four overs.
