Cricket: Dockrell in senior squad

IRELAND have announced an experienced squad for the Intercontinental Cup clash with Afghanistan and the ICC World Twenty20 qualifiers in UAE later this month.

Thirteen players have been named for the four-day clash with Afghanistan in Sri Lanka and, despite the retirement of Kyle McCallan, Phil Simmons has assembled a squad which has 799 appearances between them.

McCallan's place in the squad is taken by his Waringstown team-mate Gary Kidd, who won the last of his 15 caps back in 2008.

Kidd -- who took 8 for 15 against The Netherlands during the European A championships (the best individual figures in European tournament history) -- will be joined in the squad for the T20 quadrangular tournament in Sri Lanka and the qualifiers in Dubai by 17-year-old Leinster left-arm spinner George Dockrell, who has made such an impression on his appearances for Ireland U-19.

Dockrell and Paul Stirling will join up with the squad following the conclusion of the U-19 World Cup in New Zealand.
