Cragg smashes Carroll's Irish 10,000m record

ALISTAIR CRAGG bounced back from his disappointing indoor season by smashing Mark Carroll's seven-year-old Irish 10,000m record at the Cardinal Invitational in Stanford University, California.

Cragg's mark of 27:39.55 knocked more than seven seconds off Carroll's time (27:46.82), which was also set in Palo Alto.

Cragg finished fourth in a packed race, which was won by America's Galen Rupp (27.33.48).

Mulligar's Martin Fagan ran a personal best (28.18.30) to finish 24th, while Mark Kenneally was 29th (28:55.49).
