Cockram too hot to handle for YMCA

Lisnagarvey 3 Dublin YMCA 1

Two goals from Timmy Cockram helped make Lisnagarvey Irish Hockey League champions as they beat YMCA of Dublin 3-1.

Lisnagarvey dominated proceedings from start to finish as they put themselves on track for a league and cup double.

A scoreless first half saw YMCA 'keeper Graham Woods pull off terrific blocks from Irish striker Cockram and Mark Raphael.

The Dubs appeared to be growing in confidence after the break until a Lisnagarvey penalty corner routine saw Woods beaten high by Cockram on 47 minutes and then Stephen Arbuthnott finished a well-worked set-piece a couple of minutes later.

YMCA replied as Jamie Tobin rattled the backboard at the end of a high-speed break up the left flank.

However, the Ulster side put the tie out of sight with their third, created by Greg Thompson and finished at the closest of close range by Cockram.

YMCA's Stephen Walker and Dash Hewitt sat out the remaining minutes in the sin-bin as the tie slipped away.
