World champion boxer Carl Frampton has claimed he was hit by chewing gum "straight out of the mouth" of challenger Chris Avalos' mum during the world title fight weigh-in.

Scenes at the packed public event at the Europa Hotel in Belfast for The World Is Not Enough Fight on Saturday at the Odyssey got heated as the two boxers squared up to each other.

At one stage challenger Avalos shoved the reigning IBF super bantam weight world champion Frampton.

Frampton took to Twitter afterwards to thank fans for their support.

He then tweeted to say that he had been hit by chewing gum.

"On another note, Avalos' mother hit me with a bit of chewing gum straight out of her mouth. Lovely lady she is", he posted to his 84,000 Twitter followers.

It comes just one day after a press conference where Frampton had a quick reply for his challenger when the pair clashed with more trash talk.

Chris Avalos accused Carl of having been born with a silver spoon in his mouth.

But the defending IBF super bantam weight world champion hit back: "I've had a silver spoon? I'm from the ghetto. I'm from T (Tiger's) Bay - that's the ghetto mate!"

The big fight takes place in front of a sell-out crowd at the Odyssey Arena on Saturday night.
